On February 22, shortly before all conferences were cancelled due to the pandemic, Chapter President Linda Crichlow-White and a group of AAHGS James Walker-Dent chapter members had the good fortune to attend the 2020 luncheon of the Association for the Study of African American Literature and History (ASALH), seated at our AAHGS-DC table. The luncheon is held each year in celebration of African-American History Month. We were in the good company of at least another 1000 participants. A major highlight of the event was the keynote speech by the Honorable Lonnie Bunch, Secretary of the Smithsonian Institute, a modern-day hero of the elevation of our history.
