AAHGS-DC is a non-profit organization that can only exist because of its members. Members generously donate time and resources to support the organization by serving as officers, participating on committees, making presentations, and helping to organize events.
As a nonprofit, we are always looking for ways to be more resourceful and creative to fulfill our mission to preserve African-ancestored family history, genealogy, and cultural diversity in the Washington, DC area. This has become particularly challenging as technology continues to revolutionize all aspects of genealogical research and the way in which we communicate with members.
Adopting new technology can be expensive and the learning curve so intimidating that we don't even consider trying. Luckily, we have qualified to join Techsoup, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping other nonprofits leverage technology. Through Techsoup we have access to free or low-cost technology tools and resources that would otherwise be beyond our financial capabilities.
We are thankful to work with Techsoup and the generous donor partners like Microsoft, Adobe, Zoom and Wix, just to name a few. More importantly, we look forward to connecting with even more people in new ways to explore all that AAHGS-DC has to offer.
