AAHGS DC Members Attend CSH Marker Dedication Ceremony in Richmond, VA

Writer's picture: Adrienne FikesAdrienne Fikes

The Unveiling of the Historic Highway Marker commemorating the Founding of the Central State Hospital at the original site on the parking lot of the Mount Tabor Baptist Church, 2011 Fairmount Avenue, Richmond, Virginia was very successful and educational. The weather was perfect and we were all under Tents that maintained a cool breeze throughout the entire ceremony.

AAHGS DC member Adrienne Fikes discovered a family history connection to Central State Hospital thanks to Dr. King Davis dedication to the Digital Archive Project. Adrienne is pictured with her daughter Monica, mother Susie Perry-Fikes, and her aunt Gwen Cherry.

Dr. Jessica L. Carroll-Ward, AAHGS DC Education and Outreach Committee Chair also attended. Jessica is pictured standing on the right with Viola Baskerville.

Thank you to Dr. Jessica L. Carroll-Ward for providing this write up of the event.
