Black Broadway - U Street

Writer's picture: Lisa BealLisa Beal

I was researching the arts and came across this and wanted to share. I am a Native NYer but have lived in DC for more than 30 years. As young woman coming out of Hampton University in the 1980's I was drawn to DC. When I landed here there were a lot of live music venues that I went to. Takoma Station, One Step Down, Bohemian Caverns, and all of 18th street. The arts and DC have a long history.

What a great idea! I’d love to hear more about this project.

Shellee Haynesworth of indigocreativeworks.com poured a tremendous amount of love into creating Black Broadway on U Street. She would be a tremendous speaker for our monthly meetings.
