Black Farming History Program From Montgomery County Parks Department

The Montgomery County (MD0 Parks Department is having a virtual event that might be of interest to AAHGS Members and networks. They are hosting a lecture with Dr. Monica White, professor of Environmental Justice at the University of Wisconsin, Madison, and author of Freedom Farmers: Agricultural Resistance and the Black Freedom Movement(2019). This free talk will explore the contributions of Black farmers and reveal agriculture as a site of resistance in context to the current food justice movement.


Join Dr. White as she expands the historical narrative of the Black freedom struggle to embrace the work, roles, and contributions of southern Black farmers. Attendees will gain a historical foundation that adds meaning and context to the current food justice/ sovereignty movements in America.


Registration is required to receive the Zoom link, and a recording will be available for registrants to watch online after.
